SCIENTIFIC INTEGRITY / EDITORIAL STANDARD

Beautiful does not mean proven.

Rules for reading and checking the scientific content of the portal. Here, observations, calculations, author’s models and educational animations are not passed off as each other.

01

Observation

Telescope data, spectrum, or measured orbits are not a ready-made theory. Check instrument, calibration, evaluation method, and uncertainties.

02

Analytical model

The formula has prerequisites: metric, state, geometry, small parameter. The exact result inside the model can only approximately describe the real object.

03

Numerical implementation

Check constraints, residuals, mesh resolution, boundary conditions, and repeatability. High image detail does not equal high calculation accuracy.

04

Hypothesis

A mathematically feasible scenario does not become an observable object. Specify the test, method of refutation, and existing observational limitations.

05

Visualization

The color, size and speed of the animation can be selected for ease of viewing. On the portal, artistic and schematic effects are indicated separately.

06

Source

Cite a specific publication, textbook edition, and data set. The authority of the organization is not a substitute for verifying that the required number is actually present in the source.

Short check before withdrawal

  1. Is the physical question formulated?
  2. Are the units, conventions and scope of applicability named?
  3. Are uncertainties and systematic limitations specified?
  4. Is it possible to reproduce the calculation independently?
  5. Is observation different from interpretation?
